WHY RECOMMEND A CAREER IN SKILLED TRADES? Here are some reasons why.

RESPECT. Skilled trades play an important role in our economy and our society. Think about it, the sector touches almost every aspect of our lives from the homes we live in, to the cars we drive, to the food we eat. Canada depends on the work of skilled trades and needs skilled tradespeople.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES. With over 200 careers to choose from, the skilled trades sector truly does offer something for everyone. Apprentices receive post-secondary education through on-the-job training and in-school learning. This provides them with the skills to work almost anywhere in Canada.

Skilled tradespeople are in demand all across the country. As the babyboom generation retires, this demand is only going to increase.

GOOD PAY. People in skilled trades are rewarded for their efforts with good pay. In fact, apprentices start making money right away as they ‘earn while they learn’. The best part, though, is that tradespeople get paid well doing work they enjoy.

Discover how great a career in skilled trades can be and why encouraging students to take an apprenticeship is such a good idea.

"I advise youth to take stock of their interests, skills and abilities and investigate a match to one of the many diverse trades occupations that are available. With good wages, challenging activities and stimulating workplace environments, trades jobs are able to provide them with fulfilling and satisfying careers." - Valerie Overend, Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST), Facilitator, Women in Trades and Technologies (WITT)
